Register Now for Professional Development Day
Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa
The upcoming professional development day is set for Friday, February 23, 2018, from 9 am to 3:30 pm. The event will be held at Drake University in Des Moines and will feature a variety of programs.
Plans for the day are as follows:
The best camera is the one you have with you
Kelsey Kremer, Des Moines Register photojournalist
In this hands-on session, you’ll learn how to shoot and edit photos and videos for your yearbook and newspaper with the camera you always have access to, the one on your phone (or tablet). Please purchase and download the iMovie app if you’d like to participate in the hands-on editing portion of the training. Other tips: please come prepared with a fully charged cell phone (or tablet) with enough storage space to shoot some video.
Hands-on with new technology
Chris Snider, Associate Professor
Snider will discuss technology including 360 cameras, Snap Spectacles, 3D printers, live video cameras and drones. He’ll show you what his students are creating with the technology and let you get hands-on with the technology.
Teaching Journalism and Mass Communications in 2018
Kathleen Richardson, Dean of Drake School of Journalism and Mass Communication
Richardson will discuss what we are teaching our students in 2018 and what that might mean for you at the high school level.
Adviser roundtable
Moderated by Leslie Shipp, Johnston High School Adviser
Generation Z expects to be marketed to. Heck, they market themselves all the time on Instagram and Snapchat. Pick up some ideas about how to interest this group of youngsters through a targeted outreach program. We are always open to suggestions for other topics as well.
Registration costs $35 and includes lunch for the day. To register, fill out the form below.
